08.29.09 | Newsflash October 2009The June 2009 issue of Quilt Magazine featured a quilt that I quilted. It was a hoot having my clients and friends call me and say, ”Hey! Did you know your name is in this magazine?” It was also really fun to quilt hundreds of bright leaves all over the quilt! "It's a Rosy Day" was designed by Kaffe Fassett and sewn by Liza Prior Lucy.
It appears in the. Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy’s new book Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts which is due out in April 2010. The quilts are truly spectacular and the patterns are not hard! With Kaffe and Liza, the awesome fabric does most of the work. If you want to see what I mean, take a look at Liza’s website www.gloriouscolor.com. You can see the beautiful Kaffe fabric she sells, and you can also browse through some of their earlier books.
I recently quilted another quilt for them. I think it is also for a magazine spread. It was shown at the PA Quilt Extravaganza, in Oaks PA, with hundreds of quilts, including several of the quilts from the book. One of those quilts, a very cool red cartwheel quilt, won a Judge's Ribbon from Roberta Horton at the show.
Oaks was a new location for the Mancuso show, which relocated from Fort Washington to Harrisburg a few years ago. Now it is coming back to southeastern PA, and I heard really good things about the site.
I think of summer and fall as one season--“quilt show season.” I swooned over the quilts at Quilt Odyssey in July-- plenty of quiltie eye candy there! And I’m looking forward to this fall particularly because of my own guild’s show on October 3 and 4 at Maureen Welch School in Churchville PA. The Newtown Quilters Guild has many talented people, and the show is always decorated so beautifully. I hope to see lots and lots of great quilts there… maybe even some of yours?
