Choosing a pattern

You were so careful when you chose the pattern and the fabrics for your quilt. You want to be just as careful in choosing the design for your quilting. The quilting enhances your top and really brings the quilt to life.

I offer different levels of hand-guided machine quilting based on the amount of quilting and the complexity of detail. Edge-to-edge patterns include basic meander, stars, water, spirals, ribbons, feathers, flowers, vines, oak leaves, laurel, holly . . . whatever our imaginations can come up with! Or, combine a special border treatment with an edge-to-edge pattern to customize the look at an affordable price.  Custom designs include block designs, fancy borders, stitching in the ditch, echo quilting, or custom feathers.

Decide how much quilting your quilt needs. How will your quilt be used? Do you want it to be flat, or fluffy? It's not only the batting that determines the loft. Remember, allowing more space between the quilting lines means the quilt will have more loft. More dense quilting will make a flatter piece.

If you want the quilting to be subtle, choose a matching thread color or value. If you prefer the quilting to be more evident, then choose a contrasting thread color or value.

What's a Pantograph?

Pantographs or "Pantos" are designer patterns with an all-over design which repeats in rows from top to bottom or side to side, using one color of thread. These are hand guided, not computer generated.

Pantos vary in complexity and density. Some are simple and quilted sparsely, and others are complex and very closely quilted. That's why the price ranges from $0.02 to $0.03 per square inch. Actual pantograph patterns are on display in our workroom. The Gallery shows some samples of quilts quilted with pantograph patterns. Inquire about the other available patterns.

Prices are figured per square inch. To calculate the square inches of your quilt, measure the length and width in inches. Then multiply the length by the width to get your quilt's total square inches.

For example, a twin quilt 65 inches x 85 inches= 5525 square inches.

To calculate the price of quilting for your quilt, multiply the square inches by the price per square inch.

Example: a twin quilt 65 x 85 in a basic large freehand design at $ 0.02 (that's 2 cents) per square inch. Multiply 5525 square inches x 0.02 = $110.50. The quilting charge for this twin size quilt would be $110.50.

Additional charges may apply:
Turned borders: $15 (Turning and remounting quilt on the frame)
Seaming the Backing : $10 /seam
Squaring up the Backing : $10
Press Backing or Quilt top: $10 each
